Hello,
My name is Kathryn Budig. I grew up in Lawrence, Kansas and Princeton, New Jersey. While working toward my BA in English and Drama @ The University of Virginia, I discovered a new passion: yoga. My acting and newfound love of this beautiful practice led me to Los Angeles, where I completed the YogaWorks teacher training with Chuck Miller and my mentor, Maty Ezraty. In addition to my mentor, my practice and teaching have been strongly influenced by Heath House, Jesse Schein, Charles James and Noah Maze.
My yoga training is grounded heavily in Ashtanga, and I became one of the youngest teachers when put on the schedule at Yogaworks. My goal as a yogi and instructor gradually evolved into teaching creative sequences that make arm balances and inversions accessible to everyone in the room as well as joy and surrender. I teach a playful approach to the practice and want every student who passes through my room to learn the importance and ease of laughter and discovery.
My yogic journey has also allowed me to feed my writing and performing jones. I've been featured in and work regularly with Yoga Journal as their podcast teacher and contributor. I am a blogger for The Huffington Post and columnist for The Elephant Journal as well as a regular yoga contributor for Yahoo! Shine's Healthy Living section. I'm honored to serve as a teacher/writer for Gaiam's Yogamates.com and an amabassador to Lululemon Santa Monica. In addition, I'm the co-founder with Jesse Schein of 'Poses for Paws', an organization dedicated to raising money for animal shelters through yoga. I lead teacher trainings through YogaPoser based in Santa Monica. You can experience my class at Yogaworks Santa Monica, yogajournal.com, yogichocolate.com, from Yoga Journal's DVD "Yoga for Well-being" and through yogavibes.com.
I look forward to seeing you in class soon!
